Storms are not new to Perth. Certain areas experience storms more frequently than others. This is why it’s important to have storm damage insurance – especially for roofs and ceilings.

For instance, on 2 August 2022, Western Australia was hit by a heavy storm that wreaked havoc on many neighbourhoods. Winds of more than 100km/h pounded the suburbs. According to local officials, over 100 roofs and ceilings were damaged by fallen trees or wind-blown debris.

While nobody was reported injured, this dangerous storm serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for severe weather events.

Speaking about storm damage, we can help with ceiling repair with an insurance claim. We’ll help you assess the damage, do the paperwork, and provide you and your insurer with a comprehensive report. We seek to help you get the necessary ceiling repair.

The Importance of Insurance Coverage for Ceilings

The ceiling is often an overlooked feature in our homes. It provides crucial protection from weather and other structural damage. Unfortunately, ceiling damage can result in expensive repairs.

This is where insurance coverage becomes essential. Without coverage, a small leak or crack in the ceiling could mean paying thousands of dollars out of pocket for repairs. And with it, the cost can be spread out and be more manageable.

Moreover, insurance can provide peace of mind during difficult times, knowing that you have a safety net if any unforeseen damage were to occur. When choosing a home insurance policy, make sure to think about potential ceiling damage and ensure that you have the necessary coverage. Don’t wait until it’s too late – protect yourself and your home soon as possible.

Homeowners should regularly inspect their roofs and remove any surrounding trees that could pose a threat during a storm. By taking these precautions, we can protect ourselves and our property from the potential devastation of extreme weather.

Does Insurance Cover Storm Damage?

Storm damage is usually covered by home insurance because it is considered a defined event. This sort of insurance can provide financial security for losses or damages to your property or possessions brought on by storms and hail.

However, every insurance company has different policies and definition of what count as storm damage. Generally, they cover the damage and loss caused by storms, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, rainwater, and runoff.

You have to double-check with your home insurance company and ask them if they cover storm damage. It will be easier for you to get the necessary storm damage ceiling repair or water damage ceiling repair if the insurer covers it.

When Does Insurance Not Cover Storm Damage?

Your claim to storm damage is less likely to be accepted if there are issues with the house construction. Even if there were storms indeed hit your property but if your house already has foundational issues, your claim will not be covered.

Your insurance company will do a thorough inspection of your damaged property. Then they will conclude what is the main cause of the occurred damage. If they find that storm wasn’t the main cause, then your insurance claim will not be covered.

As reported by insurancenews.com.au, a client of an insurance company called Westpac lost his claim dispute on his ceiling collapse related to storm damage. The insurer flagged an exclusion related to “defects in design, structure, materials, workmanship or construction”. They found a weakening of the glue in the ceilings, a lack of support and an absence of battens in the roof.

The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) says “It is accepted there was a storm event and the ceilings collapsed shortly afterwards. The available evidence shows it is more likely than not that the roofing/ceilings had already been experiencing progressive deterioration and wear and tear, exacerbated by construction or installation issues. In other words, if it were not for those pre-existing issues or that pre-existing condition, then the storm would not have had any effect.”

So, you should review the terms and conditions of your home insurance policy regarding storm damage.
